Board Announcement 🗣️ Welcome! This board is new. Please help get it started by posting in your state or province and any where else you feel inclined. Thank you for coming here and being part of a solution to a very big problem. You are making a difference just by coming here and posting!
I will be adding extensions periodically to enhance this site. When this happens the board may blip on and off periodically. It shouldn't last more than a couple of minutes if it blips off. It just means that I added an extension that didn't work with the site and I have to take it right back off again. So you can know it's not your device doing it. Admin.

Heating in cold weather

#1

Post by MavrikManna »

One major problem is how to keep warm in the winter. Whether inside a vehicle, small space, or out doors this is a problem.
Keep in mind that hot air rises. Using a candle, Buddy heater, or any other open flame or propane heater will cause hot air to go straight to your roof. Do all in your power to avoid melting or burning your car, tent, over-hang of any kind. Keep as much space as possible between the roof, ceiling, over-hang and the heat source.

I haven't tried this one yet, but I just found these two techs and if put together right can get long lasting small space heat when needed and doesn't take up a lot of space to do it. Less expensive, too. Links to follow...

This can heater:

(Manna note: If it gets too hot, shorten the wick.)

With this carbon felt candle:

(Note from video: "*the fuel i use is a bio-ethanol blend. You can find it by searching for 'indoor ventless fireplace fuel'. It's extremely clean burning. No soot or smoke at all. only releases a little carbon dioxide and some water vapor.")

Idea: Could also recharge a Sterno/solid fuel can with the carbon felt and use alternate fuels with it to fit anything a Sterno can would fit.

Ought to have great results!

Alternate candle styles:

the forever wick olive oil lamp or candle.

This is the guy who started it all. The one the other videos refer to.

Oh. And...don't try cooking on your Buddy heater. You'll melt the handle. The handle is surprisingly not heat resistant!
